JAMES VU ANH PHAM

James Vu Anh Pham is an international freelance dance artist currently with Akram Khan Dance Company touring Outwitting the Devil.

Since 2012 James performed extensively with Chunky Move - Anouk van Dijk, works include: Rule of Thirds, Depth of Field, Complexity of Belonging, 247 Days, gentle is the power and An Act of Now.

In 2016 James relocated to Belgium to work with Eastman - Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, performing in Babel 7.16 in the prestigious Palais des Papes for the Festival d’Avignon(collaboration with Damien Jalet and Antony Gormley) and further tours of the original Babel. James guested at the Royal Ballet of Flanders with RAVEL, ICON with the GöteborgsOperans Danskompani, Les Indes Galantes with Bayerisch Staatsoper Munich and Satyagraha at Theater Basel.

Independently James has guested with Garry Stewart's Australian Dance Theatre, casted as the lead role in Christophe Coppens’s Le Mandarin Merveilleux at La Monnaie de Munt Opera house in Brussels, performed in creations as, AS IT STANDS and Triumphs & Other Alternatives with MUSCLE MOUTH - Ross McCormack in New Zealand, AORTA by Stephanie Lake and NETHER by Lauren Langlois both for Chunky Move’s NEXT MOVE program.

In 2014 James received the Helpmann Award ‘Best Male Dancer in a Dance or Physical Theatre Work’ and the ‘Outstanding Performance by a Male Dancer’ Australian Dance Award. James is a certified

Countertechnique teacher and has taught extensively around the world.
