YILIN KONG

Yilin is a Perth based independent artist who graduated from WAAPA.

She is currently a member of Co3 Contemporary Dance Company, debuting in their Perth Festival 2021 commissioned work, Archives of Humanity.

Upon graduating, Yilin performed with Buzz Dance theatre and OCHRE, and was awarded the WA Dance Award for emerging artist. Since then, she has worked and performed with STRUT Dance, Steamworks Arts, Marrugeku and Shaun Parker and Company, and has performed in theatre works with Barking Gecko Theatre Company and Renegade Productions. Independently she has worked and performed globally with multiple artists.

A highlight of Yilin’s performing career has been being part of the first Australian cast to perform Batsheva’s Decadance through STRUT as well as touring major festivals around Australia with Barking Gecko’s A Ghost in my Suitcase.

Yilin was nominated for a 2016 Performing Arts WA Award as best supporting actress for her performance in Renegade Productions Selkie. In 2019 she was nominated for a Performing Arts WA Award for best female dancer in Steamworks Gui Shu and for best supporting actress in Barking Gecko’s A Ghost in my Suitcase.

Alongside her performing career, Yilin has undergone many choreographic endeavours creating multiple short works, including on the 2015 and 2017 WAAPA students. In 2018 she was selected to further develop and perform a self-devised solo, Blushed, for the MoveMe festival and is currently in development of a new work, Nothing to Something in collaboration with Michael Smith.
